Cask And Larder Brunch

To make a long story short. I was at Cask and Larder last week for brunch and I had to go again. What an amazing place. I wanted to take pics of the restaurant but was so obsessed with the food I went right to it. We got the menu and literally circled 7 things off the menu. Last week we had done the same thing. Family style always works with heavy duty foodies. Adrienne, our server, who we had last week just kept the dishes coming as we cleared each dish that came to us. We requested Adrienne to be our server again this week. She is very attentive and super sweet. So now let’s talk food. In order of appearance.
The Bloody Mary ordered by my lovely sister in law. My brother in law had a sip and he said it was like a cold soup with all types of yumminess inside. The staff recommended this drink. Good stuff.
First dish was the Fried chicken & Waffles. Orange ricotta, maple balsamic, blackberries. Now understand, I have had these before in Hollywood California at the popular Roscoes Chicken and Waffles. Cask and Larder took these to a whole new level in taste. The maple balsamic makes your taste buds pop.

The Southern Ma’am. Grilled brioche, swiss cheese, ham jam, fried egg, greens. Need I say more?? The pic and the description is enough. I love this dish. Every time I get it I can’t get enough of it.

Anson Mills grits with ham butter. I am not and have never been a fan of grits. Until now. And with the ham butter makes it the perfect bite. My sister in law ordered these and they were divine.

Bacon and eggs. Crispy vanilla pork belly, scrambled eggs, sourdough. I know for a fact that it took me two seconds to eat them because they were so good. I loved having a bit of everything and sharing with the family.

Frittata. Chorizo, roasted potatoes, swiss cheese, hen of the woods. This one was my idea. I had seen it last week on the menu and decided to try it today. So glad I did. Very light and flavorful. The chorizo made this dish for me.

Buttermilk pancakes. Ginger-maple sausage, roasted potatoes, Virginia maple syrup. I agree with my brother in law, these pancakes were just the right size and fluffiness. And the sausage flavor was intense. There were all kinds of flavor in each bite.

French toast. Battered and deep fried, Apple butter, roasted pumpkin, foie gras. Foie Gras, Nuff said!!

Biscuits & Gravy. Black pepper biscuits, pork sausage gravy. Nice and soft biscuits. Baked to perfection and the gravy hits the spot.

Bakeshop on a board. Profiteroles, muffins, coffee cake, apple cider glazed fritters. A perfect ending to a fantastic meal. A taste of each baked good. One word, WOW! The family favorite was the Profiteroles: A pastry filled with raspberry jam and peanut butter mousse.

Overall this experience was amazing. I would come here every Sunday if I could. Some reviews on line were negative. Don’t know what they were thinking and not sure what they ate because everything is so good here. Great service from Adrienne. We will ask for her each time we go.

Cask and Larder Whole Cookery Feast

Seems unfair that I am writing about Cask and Larder again. I have gone now three weeks in a row. Tempted to make a reservation for next week as well just to feel I have been there every weekend of this month. This time it was different. We did and evening event. We had a pre set menu. It’s called the Whole Cookery Feast. You have several pre set menu items to choose from.
Photo courtesy of http://www.caskandlarder.comThe selection for this evening was the Suckling Pig. With the sides that you see posted above. The pig is brought out for our viewing pleasure. As foodies/food bloggers we just had to take pictures.

I couldn’t get really good picture the front of the pig. @CaskLarder was nice enough to send me a picture they had taken so I will post that one as well.

Photo courtesy of Cask and Larder (@CaskLarder)

Here is what it looks like when “foodsters” get together to make a perfect pic

The pig is then taken out of the room while we start getting served salads.

While anxiously awaiting the pig we had some beverages. @CaskLarder brews their own beers and makes fantastic mixed drinks. The bar in the evening is always hoppin’ and the beer flights are the most popular order.
Now back to the good part, We were asked if we wanted to order any extra sides and of course the answer was yes. As we were finishing the salad the sides started coming out.

I only took a pic of the Mac and cheese because it was my favorite. Other sides that fellow “foodsters” ordered I did not take pics of. I was truly not in a side dish picture sort of mood tonight. But then, the moment of truth. They brought in what we were all waiting for. The pig

Again, not the best pics because we were all eating and taking pics and moving around. But again, to give you an idea of what the family style feast looks like.
There were a total of eight of us and we had to get boxes to go because it was so much food. Adam our server was nice enough to make individual boxes and split up a little bit of everything in the box. Once most of us, except @Droolius, had thrown in the towel @CaskLarder brought out the dessert.

Again, done family style. A little bit of everything for dessert. As you can see from the menu above it is a chef’s selection. Which I like, I know if I come again the dessert will be different for the next feast. I loved that about their brunch. It changed week by week. I like that they mix it up and always keep it new. I really can’t say enough about this place. It’s my third time coming this month. I think that says it all. Come and check them out when you are in the Winter Park area.

Thanks to the @CaskLarder team working hard serving us our meals tonight. Also, big thanks to the “foodsters” that ate tonight. Until we “Eat” again my friends. Looking forward to it.

Today’s lunch was @kokocooks idea. Great weather and great peeps. @Kokocooks @tytyeats @xobejm @eatlocalorlando @Ann_archy and I were ready for a fabulous lunch.
We came for lunch on a Saturday so it wasn’t too busy. It seems to me that there aren’t enough seats. I am sure somehow they work it out. You order in one location and get seated here. Strange set up, but somehow it works.
These are the sweets which we bought at the end of our meal. This is where we placed our burger orders.

Had to use this pic. It shows the knife within the burger. Nice presentation. My order was the #5: house-made bourbon ham, pecan-smoked bacon, over-easy fried farm egg, brie, brioche french toast, and a side of sweet potato fries.

@Xobejm ordered the #2: pecan-smoked bacon, aged cheddar, caramelized onion jam, lettuce, tomato.

And of course my favorite shot of all. The Feast shot. I know I say it all the time, but it does my heart good to eat and share with great people.

The cupcakes to go is always a must. I told them to give me one of each.

Although I will be back again I was expecting a lot more. I will be back end of February to give it another try. @Xobejm loved her burger. Next time I may try a different burger.

Cocina 214 Restaurant and Bar

First, let me thank @dafoodie and @talktochu for joining me for lunch today. Great people who share the love of food and great conversation.
Cocina 214 had been on my radar since @thedailycity had posted about it on Twitter. It’s been open now for about a year.
The restaurant is very nice and has great food. Tex-Mex is usually not my thing but I have changed my ways after this.

Photo courtesy of Yelp.com. I was unable to get a shot of the outside because of the amount of people around. We sat outside in this patio. Very nice and believe it or not very quiet. @Dafoodie and I both commented on the Bachata music playing in the background in a Tex-Mex restaurant. Hey, that will work. Diversity and inclusion at its best. Now, on to the FOOD stuff!

Brisket Tacos. These were very good. The salsa is nice. Not as spicy as I tend to like, but it had a nice kick to it.

Our server did a great job. Didn’t rush us at all since it was our first time. Kept the iced tea coming and wasn’t to overwhelming regarding how everything was going.

Beef and Cheese Enchiladas. Their special is pick any two enchiladas for $10.00. I of course had to get the two enchiladas and the two tacos.

The infamous Feast Shot. @Dafoodie had the Carnita Tacos and @talktochu had the Shrimp Fajitas. Some great selections. Overall, I was very pleased with Cocina 214. Food was good and service was excellent.

Note: This blog and pictures are ALL credited to Angela and Tim. (My In-laws)
They have a love of food like I do. And they love to explore all the local places in town. Since Angela has read my blog she had an idea of what pictures to send me.
The menu looks great. Everyday happy hour got my attention on this one. Not to mention the great lunch specials.

You can never go wrong with Turkish Tea. Angela is a big tea fan and she can tell ya how to make a great cup of tea.

Cheese and Tomato stuffed bread with a side salad. Tim and Angela truly made me smile. They are taking @droolius type food shots. Or should I say @kokocooks shots. Not sure, I am a fan of both of their styles.

This was my favorite picture of ALL. Tim, my father in law giving the “Foodbidden Approved” sign. This is awesome.

Angela and Tim, thank you so much for the pictures and contributing to Foodbidden.Wordpress.Com and spreading the word of local restaurants.

P.R.’s Taco Palace

The colors alone tell you why I stopped and had to eat here. Right next to @CaskLarder this place has a unique personality. Kandi was the first one to greet me. Very nice and gave me her recommendations. Randi was my server today and was sweet as can be.
Extremely colorful. Looks very festive. Love it. Very strange to not have any Spanish people working here, but the team here is very friendly and I feel like I am in Key West. : )
The place is huge. Huge bar. As you can see everything is written on. The chairs, tables, and the walls are written on with black marker, pen, some carved in the wood, etc. Very cool.

Chips and Salsa. Just the right kick in the salsa. This was very good. Very well made. They have been here for 21 years. Can’t believe I didn’t spot it until now.

Big Red Taco. Chicken breast, breaded then fried and topped with wing sauce and bleu cheese.

Double Stuffed Taco. Crunchy taco filled with ground beef, lettuce, tomato, and cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla with refried beans.

Black beans and rice with cheese. The cheese on top of the rice and beans made this dish amazing.

Everything was very good. Kandi mentioned they have the best burger in town too. Next time I go I will have to check it out. Great place to come and have a good time. If you are eating in, when the train goes by they serve $3.00 tequila shots. By the way, the train goes by often.

Randi and Kandi, thank you so much for the making me feel welcomed as soon as I walked in. You two are very nice. Will come back with the family for sure.

Toasted

This morning was the perfect morning. Weather was just right and @eatlocalorlando and I were meeting for lunch. He suggested Toasted which has just opened a few days ago. I said, “Screw it, Let’s get Toasted”

I arrived early and was able to speak to Sal the owner. He mentioned already having a food critic coming in and taking pics of his place. I would say that’s a good sign and definitely something to look forward to. Curb side pick up is a great idea in this area.

Great looking menu on line. I made sure to do my research before I met @eatlocalorlando. I knew I had to try the Braised Brisket. And Yes, you read it correctly, they have a Vegan menu as well.

The Periodic Table of Cheese. I have never seen anything like this before. This was impressive. Jeff the CEO of Toasted sat down with us and explained the concept about the look and feel of the restaurant.

Had to show you another shot of the PTC. Also, when you order at the register you get a placard to put on your table.

The placard for our table. This is awesome. Love the little touches that the restaurant has. We placed our order and waited less than five minutes. Quick service and the team is extremely friendly. Toasted just opened 7 days ago. Which impressed me more since they truly are running like a well oiled machine. At least from a customer perspective.

Nice size to the place. I mean once you walk in it’s a bit smaller and they have some seats outside as well. It’s located inside the Winter Park Corners plaza. Very busy place. We arrived around 10:30am which is when Toasted opens.

Braised Brisket. Fontina, braised brisket, homemade BBQ sauce, sweet tea caramelized onions. Very nice sandwich to have at 10:30am. This hit the spot. Their BBQ sauce is very smooth. Not too overpowering.

Toasted’s Mac and Cheese. Jarlsberg, extra sharp cheddar, gruyere.
WOW! Hard to explain how yummy this is. Nice layer on the top and bottom. Jeff mentioned it as the Hostess Ding Dong of Mac and Cheese. Toasty on top and the middle has the gooeyness of the Mac and cheese. Again, very hard to explain. Point is, it’s AWESOME

Natural Cut Fries. (Salted).
They also have the option of Truffle Fries. Next time I will try the truffle ones. These salted fries were perfectly made. Good flavor and not too salty.

The Big cheese. Jack cheese, muenster, white cheddar, arugula.
This was @eatlocalorlando’s order. Nice flavor to it. They took a grilled cheese and made it very good. Tasty. I need to bring @wholycheesus here. He would love all the cheese in this place.

Southern Comfort. Cheddar cheese applewood smoked bacon, housemade BBQ sauce, Mac and cheese.
HOLY MOTHER OF ALL THAT IS DELICIOUS!! The burger was insane. I shared this one with @eatlocalorlando and we got it medium rare. WOW. In fact, DOUBLE WOW!! I enjoyed every bite of this burger. Plus, the Mac and Cheese inside of it made it absolutely heavenly.

@Eatlocalorlando asked Jeff to see the Vegan Menu and he was nice enough to hand us one. They are on the counter as soon as you come in to order. They also have a Gluten free bread.

Sal and Jeff. Thank you so much for sitting down and talking to us. We enjoyed chatting with both of you and getting to know the people behind such a great establishment. Best of luck to you. CHEERS! (Toasting now).

B Cupcakes

I am in a big sugar coma as I write this. Via several social media sites I had seen that B Cupcakes was going to open up a new location in Winter Park Florida. I did my research and I saw that they have a location in Apopka Florida already and it seemed to have wonderful reviews.

Their second shop is located on the corner of Fairbanks and Park Avenue. It’s not really hidden, but you do have to be looking out for it to find it. It’s right next to the 711.

@Tarajroth and I wanted to go early to meet up with @winechix, but we had an appointment we needed to go to. After the appointment was done we had some lunch in Hunters Creek and made our way to Winter Park.

Beautiful place. Today was their grand opening and they had a buy one get one free special on all their cupcakes.

Brittany was the first want to greet us when we arrived. We had told her that we drove all the way from Kissimmee and she was impressed.

I knew that choosing the right cupcake was going to be difficult, so in order to make it easy for myself and wifey I decided to get one of each. You name it they have it: Peanut butter chocolate, German chocolate, salted caramel, lemon zest, Red Velvet, etc.

I ended up getting a total of 20 cupcakes to bring home. Now I know I had mentioned this before I am a big cupcake fan, so this was the perfect number for me.

They have a milk bar as well and you can add any flavor to whatever type of milk you order.

The price of the cupcake is definitely worth it. The moisture of the cake and the frosting is a perfect blend to a delicious cupcake. Red Velvet was my favorite so far. I still have 19 more cupcakes to go. Stop on by when you are in the Winter Park area. You will not regret it.

Brittany, thanks for the warm welcome and the great customer service. You rock!!

Two Thumbs Up!!

While I type this I wonder why I am even blogging about this place. It’s been around so long and it’s so well known that millions of bloggers have written about it. So, lets get to the “food” stuff,

This is the Signature Angus Brisket sandwich. My dear friend @eatlocalorlando got the Brisket dinner which was just the brisket with no bread and it comes with sides and a biscuit. This was out of this world. Now I see why people line up for this place. Baby girl and I waited about twenty minutes to get in. Always nice to wait in line with good company. I had @kokocooks @Joeyme1 @ttyeats @xobejm and @eatlocalorlando who came later on. Great eats and great peeps!

Not sure why the pic looks tiny but regardless I had to post it. This is their Santa Maria Tri-Tip Steak. Ironically enough, I didn’t order this sandwich. It was rung up as mine and I told them I would keep it. I am a true foodie at heart. As sides we ordered the Mac and cheese (not pictured) and the Krispy Kreme Bread pudding (not pictured) that was ordered by @eatlocalorlando. Wow. They were both great.

Within the restaurant they have The Sweet Shop. They have an array of sweets and treats so I had to get the dozen cupcakes. I just asked them to give me an assortment.

Great place. Didn’t have many pics because I was hanging out with some awesome people. Just means we gotta make plans to go again. LET’S EAT!!

Not pictured: The Burnt Ends Signature Stackers with French fries ordered by @Joeyme1

Check them out on the web and see their menu items. Also, check out their hours of operations. If you want it to go you have to either call it in or go in a separate door that has a separate line for To Go orders only.
