The Old Gaol Cafe (Grand Cayman)

ol Cafe (Grand Cayman)

Grand Cayman today and had to look for a new food-venture. I wouldn’t say the owners were rude. Probably just more shocked that a Latino was stopping by and eating their food. I saw Old Gaol Cafe on line and didn’t think twice about it. As I was walking looking for any place that was unique I happened to find Old Gaol Cafe.

Indian buffet and menu items as well. On a side street in front of Emerald Marquise. On South Church and Goring Avenue. The seating is outside. Covered and no breeze was rough, but it was the true island experience. The owners were sitting a few tables away from me enjoying their own food. That made me feel good about what I was eating.

On the menu they have hot dogs and burgers for the non adventurers. The menu mostly consists of Indian dishes.

Chicken Korma and Sag Aloo
They had other choices on the buffet menu but I loved the Korma and Sag Aloo. And the saffron rice made it twice as good.

This was the buffet options for today. I should have tried a bit of each. Maybe next time. Come and check it out for yourself. Nice place. Ask the locals and they will lead you the right way.

Two Thumbs Up!!

How can you possibly say no to a shop like this. I had gone in about three weeks ago and knew I had to write about this place. This week I was ready to take pics and share this store with the world.

The place is amazing. It’s truly a child’s dream come true. Located in Grand Cayman at Gate 1 when you arrive from the tender boats.

The store just goes on and on. With different sweets and treats and tons of memorabilia. Even merchandise from way back in the day.

Everything here is candy. Even huge candy. The biggest jaw breaker I have ever seen here.

Bacon candy products which would be perfect for my buddy @droolius.

Candy, Candy, and more candy. This is truly the place to be to satisfy that sweet tooth.

Had to take this pic of these kids with their life size sweets. Look how big the gummy bear is!!

Gelato as well? Oh yeah. Lots to choose from. The ladies were nice enough and would give samples.

Mint Chocolate Chip. This was Amy’s choice for the day.

Butter Pecan. This was mine. Amazing gelato. We both have actually eaten gelato in Italy, so we were ready to criticize it. We were shocked how good it was. Very tasty.

Definitely something you need to see for yourself. It’s pretty pricey because of the location, but the the products they have are unique. You won’t be disappointed.

Two Thumbs Up!

Another gorgeous day at Grand Cayman. This time I had @xobejm with me and she was excited about our food-venture. My buddy Taufan from DCL told me I had to try this place.

We asked a local taxi driver and she gave us great directions. Behind Scotia Bank and behind the Post Office. Best part was Taufan was inside the restaurant when we arrived. He really likes this place.

Because of my buddy Sammy on DCL he had me talking about Green Curry and I told him one day I would try it. Today was the day. They had a buffet for lunch, but I decided to order from the menu hoping they had Green Curry.

Green Curry and Chow Mein was going to be our order. To my surprise @xobejm and I had to trade dishes. She wanted spicy and not a “plain” dish. I was so proud of her. She loved the spicy Green Curry.

The service was spectacular. I told them Taufan had suggested this place and they loved hearing that. They were super nice to us. Locals come in and get their food and are on their way. Several crew members were here today. Several that I knew.

Thai Iced Tea. This is a must all the time.

Green Chicken Curry (Spicy)

Chicken Chow Mein

Again, service was spectacular. Great team. Everyone was extremely friendly and happy we were there. The place is beautiful. The decor is perfect and the restaurant is very clean.

Grand Cayman once again and this time I was with the big boss @aroth. Luckily, she enjoys great food like I do.

When I first told her about going to a Roti shop she was ready to try something new. She even did her research on line finding information on what a Roti shop had. We head out into town and started asking locals where the Roti shop was located.

They sent us down Shedden road in Georgetown. When you come out of the gate from the ship you make a right. Second street is Shedden make a left and walk straight down passed the Thai restaurant until you see Singh’s Roti on your left.

My first Roti shop experience was in Orlando. At Singh’s Roti Shop as well. I thought it was perfect that it had the same name. Curious to know if it’s the same owners.

When we walked in my buddy David was there. I love bumping into crew who enjoy good food. It smelled great when we walked in. Trudy was our server today. We decided to order the lunch special and a Roti. I also wanted a typical drink from Trinidad.

Mauby. A typical drink from Trinidad.

Stew Chicken with Rice and Salad. Delicious. The only thing that was difficult for @aroth and I was the bones. You had to be careful while chewing.

Curry Chicken Roti. This one deserved three pictures and more. Outstanding. The curry was spot on. No bones in the chicken and I swear I swallowed it in two seconds. My buddy David was making fun at me and asking if I needed another one. It truly was that good.

Casanova Restaurant

Grand Cayman has many offerings for a tourist like me. But this was an unexpected surprise. @tarajroth and I have been here several times. This is our place to go to since it’s so close to the Disney ship.

A gorgeous entry way to a luxurious restaurant. All along the walls are the pictures of regular people like you and me. They also have pictures of celebrities.

The restaurant is a joy to be at and the workers are predominantly Italian. Always treated like royalty when we walk in. Lots of crew members come here to enjoy the food as well.

Today we chose to sit outside because the weather was great. We have never done this before. It tends to be too hot and humid so we sit in the AC. Today the breeze helped a lot so we had to sit outside.

Our view from our table. What a beautiful day we had. Even though it started sprinkling by the time we arrived to the restaurant the threat of rain was over.

The bread basket. Oil and vinegar on the table and you mix it yourself. Delicious. We had to just take small bites since we were about to order a huge meal.

Pepperoni Pizza. @Xobejm went plain and simple today. Huge portion. Lots of flavor. Very well made pizza.

Spaghetti in a bolognese sauce laced with a hint of cream. @Tarajroth has gotten this dish time and time again here. We have been coming here for the past 10 years at least. This dish is truly the best.

Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo. This was my dish for the day. The huge portion did intimidate me for a bit, but once I took a bite it was gone in five minutes. This dish has made me a pasta lover for life.

Great Italian food in Grand Cayman. Not for someone on a budget. The ambience and the view cannot be beat. Also, exceptional service. All the Casanova team members work together to provide the best service possible.
