Homemade Food

Oh yes you did read that correctly. The name of the restaurant is Homemade Food and it’s name suits it well.

The decor caught my eye immediately. The salsa music in the background was a nice touch as well. The place is very clean.

Empanadas. They have typical breakfast specials in the morning. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner Rider Ferreira. He has very proud of his restaurant and told me that he had been open for less than a month.

The ground beef was my dish for the day. The owner was nice enough to let me sample some of the soup they had for today. It was a chicken and beef soup. Very tasty.

Each day they have three proteins: shredded chicken, shredded beef, and Pernil (pork). In addition they will have another protein depending on the day. The option of black beans and red beans made me happy. They also had vegetables.

Love the hours of operations. Hard to find a place that opens early morning. The young lady who served me was very friendly and very helpful. She says they have a great breakfast in the mornings.

Carne Molida with black beans and white rice. This ground beef was amazing. It has been a long time since I have had a good tasting picadillo.

Mango Juice. They have several natural juices to choose from. Regular and Latin sodas are served as well.

Tres Leches. Very good. Not too sweet. It was a good way to end my meal.

Two Thumbs Up!! Rider, gracias por todo. Espero regressed pronto con mi familia. Sorry that I forgot your staff persons name. She was great. Always nice to get excellent customer service.

Lechonera El Jibarito #1

So this is a pretty sweet story. @Xobejm has a classmate who has been with her since pre- K.

Celia and @xobejm have been friends ever since and one day we heard Celia’s parents own a restaurant.

Being the hungry man that I am I asked where it was. El Jibarito has been open for one year so far and it’s in Kissimmee closer to the Poinciana area.

I wanted to come on Labor Day and they were packed. So I left heart broken and with an empty stomach.

I was on a mission to come today no matter what the traffic looked like and fill up my belly!!

Luckily I picked a day and a time where most people are just leaving work. @Xobejm and I were ready to eat.

The place is huge. Very nice and extremely clean. The tables have Puerto Rican names and motifs.

The tables are lower to the floor and the designs are gorgeous.

@Xobejm ordered the Chicken with white rice and beans.

I ordered the Pastel. Had to do it.

I also ordered the Chicken Noodle Soup. This was way too yummy. (All I needed was a soda on the side)

Overall the service was excellent. Food was on point. Everything had flavor and we left that place licking our fingers. This is a must try in Kissimmee.

Hector y Lisandra. Muchas gracias por todo. Todo estaba delicioso. Tienen un restaurante muy lindo. Los deseo mucha suerte.

Rubio’s Cuban Cafe

On this chilly morning AR and I head out early to see what we could find. Rubio’s has an interesting schedule and not open early morning. We were craving a Cuban coffee, but no luck. There store hours are as follows:

 Monday to Friday
 11am to 3pm
 5pm to 7pm

 Saturday and Sunday
 11am to 7pm

Awesome little place. They make a good use of space in this tiny area.

Great decor on walls and the place is very clean.

We arrived at 11am sharp, so no customers when we arrived. About 12pm the lunch rush came in and we had to pay and leave in a hurry before it became too crowded. We were heading back to the ship and we couldn’t be late.

The paintings on the wall were gorgeous and we were greeted by Andrea. She said it was only her third day working there and she was amazing.

I haven’t had a Jupiña since I was a kid. I may have hyped it up too much in my head. It’s just pineapple soda. : )

AR had the Passion Fruit. I didn’t want to take a taste. Most of these drinks have way too much sugar in them. AR said it tasted refreshing.

Croquetas
Two ground ham croquettes, rolled, breaded and deep fried. I always have loved these. Nice and hot when they brought them out. Always a good way to start the meal.

Frita/Cuban Burger
Cuban Style burger of seasoned ground beef served with onions, and piled high potato sticks on a burger bun. I have had these in Miami and they are delicious. This one was definitely a second place contender. Keep in mind we have nothing like this in Orlando, so having a Frita in Cape Canaveral was pretty cool.

Ropa Vieja with white rice and maduros. This was AR’s dish. I ate most of hers too. Very nice. Not out of this world good, but good combination.

Andrea, thank you so much for the great service and hospitality. Your suggestions were spot on. Until we “Eat” again.

Pepper Pot Grill (Nassau, Bahamas)

My dear friend Leslie from DCL was the one who introduced me to this place years ago. Today I had to bring my buddy Chris with me. It is near the straw market. You have to cross the street from the main road and it’s hidden in the back. I asked some taxi drivers and they told me it was closed. I then asked around again and they directed me to where it was at.

It was the first time Chris was eating Jamaican food. This was truly a great place to start. Sandra was our server today. She was awesome. Got our food out quickly. The place is nice and clean. It is cash only. They claim to have the best Jamaican food on the island. It is strange to be in the Bahamas and have Jamaican food.

Mango Juice. This is what Chris ordered. I wanted to take a sip, but I was enjoying my carrot juice way too much.

Carrot Juice. I was expecting to taste carrots and soil. I was not expecting it to be creamy. I wanted five more of these. This juice is perfect.

Jerk Chicken with rice and peas and plantains. I remember it having more of a kick. This time around Chris said it was tasty, but it was missing the kick.

Curry chicken with white rice and plantains. This was my dish. The curry was perfect. Great taste. Had a nice spicy kick to it, but my issue were the bones in the chicken. Still delicious, just annoying. They have other sides that they offer. I love their plantains.

Fruit Cake. For dessert I had my eye on the chocolate cake they had near the register. To my surprise it was their Fruit Cake. Fantastic. I could not tell you what it had on the inside, but it was great. Chris and I were full and we still took more than one bite because it was that good.

Two Thumbs Up. Foodbidden Approved.

Overall, the place is a hidden gem. It is off from the main road. Short walk and definitely worth it. Cash only. Place is clean. Ask for Sandra. She is awesome. Oxtail is on the menu. Busy during lunch time. Lots of locals call their orders in and come and pick them up.

Khushi Indian Restaurant (St Maarten)

This day was an Indian food day. I have been to St Maarten several times before and always went to the same Indian restaurant. While walking to it I found out it has closed for good. So, I had to search for another one.

Khushi is hidden in the corner. Just to the left of the courthouse. Cash only and no credit cards. Free Wifi is always nice. When I arrived the staff seemed a bit apprehensive. I am sure they have never seen a Latino in their place before. I smiled and said I wanted to sit and eat.

The place is very small. Not sure if they ever get super busy or not. I did experience firsthand what it’s like when the crew members arrive. While sitting there all alone about 10 crew members showed up. Three of which I knew very well.

Mango Lassi was a great way to start my afternoon. Made on the spot.

Samosas. These were served with meat. Nice and crispy. The green sauce added a bit of kick to the samosas.

No Garlic Naan today, so I had to settle for Roti. It was good, but the garlic Naan would have hit the spot.

Chicken Vindaloo (Spicy) I could have had more spice. I think they make it more Americanized to be safe with the customers. I would have loved it extremely spicy.

The combination of the rice and vindaloo were perfect. Again, just would have wanted it spicier. Also, the food was warm but not hot. I could hear them cooking in the back, but it was not steaming hot.

Overall, nice place. Cash only. Staff is nice but don’t expect Disney type service. While speaking to one of the crew members he said it perfectly. He would rate it a 7 between 1 and 10. I would say I agree. Free wifi is a big plus. Come and give it a try for yourself.

I would say One Thumb Up.

Hawaiian Grindz

The Lunch Bunch has arrived!! MEGA YUMMY MAHALO to @OrlandoFamStyle for hosting this fabulous event.

The place is gorgeous and lots of locals came here today to enjoy some Authentic Hawaiian Grindz!

We came in six deep and they didn’t even flinch. They sat us down and took our order immediately. We love quick service with a smile.

I had to start off with the Aloha Maid Natural. Passion Fruit and Guava? You can’t go wrong. Now let’s talk FOOD!!!

Garlic Sugoi Chicken. Fried boneless thighs served with “garlicky” sauce imported from Hawaii.

Zippy’s Chili. Imported from Hawaii. You always have to ask for availability.

Combination Plate. Kalbi Ribs, Kalua Pig, Mochiko Chicken. They have some great lunch specials where you can pick any two or three. I went straight for the combo plate. Cost more, but I wanted more food.

Malasadas. “A Portuguese confection, made of egg-sized balls of yeast dough that are deep-fried in oil and coated with granulated sugar.” (Courtesy of Wikipedia).
One word. YUM!! These were amazing! They should be called Amazingsadas!

When in Oviedo come and check this place out. You will not be disappointed and you will leave with a full tummy!

Spanish Rotisserie

This morning I was feeling adventurous and went out to the Osceola Square Mall. This poor mall needs some serious loving. No quality stores are in this mall, but the food is getting much better.

This morning they had Pollo Guisado (Braised Stewed Chicken) and Pollo Asado (Roasted Chicken)

They also have Empanadas, Papa Rellenas, Yuca, and Pasteles. The owner is from El Salvador and the wife is from Cuba. One of the cooks is from the Dominican Republic. Good diversity within the team. This is what makes this place so good.

They have salads as well. The tuna salad looked great. They were just opening this morning and were making the steak. I had to head back to work, so had no time and only ordered the chicken. I had to bring it all To Go.

Pollo Asado with White Rice. Some sauce on the rice as well to give it some flavor. I was not in the mood for the plantains as a side today.

Pollo Guisado (Braised Stewed Chicken) with Arroz con Gandules. With extra sauce on the Rice. This one is always my favorite. The juices from the chicken make the rice taste yummy.

Last but not least. Empanadas De Pollo and Papa Rellena. These potato balls are stuffed with ground beef and have other yummy ingredients inside to make it the perfect bite.

I brought lunch for myself and co-workers today. They loved the meal.
