Señor Iguanas. Cozumel Mexico


I would like to give MUCHO thanks to @burgerbeast and Mrs. @burgerbeast for suggesting this place. Definitely off the beat and path. Or should I say off the “BEAST” and path. Also, big thanks to Angela who always puts up with me and all my food adventures and joining me today.


Great Mexican restaurant in Cozumel Mexico near the beach. Tourist come from all over the world just to sit down and have a Corona and then be on their way. This is the usual taxi stop when the taxi drivers give you a tour of the island.


Our view from our table was breathtaking. When @burgerbeast told me about the place and showed me pics I knew this was something I had to do.


Amazing. Felt so good to sit and hear the crashing of the waves. The breeze today was perfect. Now…on to the FOOD stuff!


Ok not yet, first I had to show what the bar looks like. We came early so the bar was not hopping. Once we were leaving lots of people were stopping by. Ok, NOW on to the FOOD stuff!!


WOW! The salsa was truly the freshest I have had. Angela had to ask what was inside. All fresh cut goodies. Best part was the Habanero peppers. Had a great kick to it. Excellent pico de gallo!


Guacamole. Once again. Freshly made. Not often have I found a place that makes it all on the spot. You can definitely taste the difference.


Arrachera Fajitas. Angela ordered these and they were great. They also had a mix of shrimp, chicken, and steak. Luckily, Angela and I were in the mood for all steak today.


Arrachera tacos, black beans, guacamole, salad. We ate these in two seconds. They were nice and soft and tender. Very flavorful. The tacos come plain and you add what you want. We always added the pico de gallo to everything.


Feast Shot. I cannot tell you how quickly we ate all of this. It was delicious. Only one observation, no Mexican coke. We got Pepsi in a can.


House Sangria. Angela saw it on the menu and it got her attention. They brought it over and even I tried some. Very refreshing! Not too overwhelming strong. Perfect ending to a great meal.

I was not able to get specific address on this location. Will update when I can. Also, if getting off the cruise ship go to the Taxi area and ask for Señor Iguana Restaurant next to Mezcalitos. All the drivers know the place. It’s about a 30 minute drive from the pier.

Avu-Avu Restaurant


Located inside the luxurious Buena Vista Palace across the street from Downtown Disney. Avu-Avu is making the Polynesian cuisine magic happen. Formerly The Outback restaurant (not be confused with Outback Steakhouse)


The restaurant is huge and the decor is outstanding. I was invited by @droolius to the social media event this evening. Had an opportunity to hang out with some amazing people and have a great dinner. Thank you so much @droolius for the invite. It was great to be there.


The lighting and the ambience is truly phenomenal. It’s perfect for a romantic date and excellent for some good quality family time. Avu is family friendly. When entering the restaurant there is a shelving unit laid out full of crayons and coloring books. Perfect for any families coming in.


The view from the conference area. When entering the hotel you pass the main lobby and head towards the conference area. Just passed it are these gorgeous set of stairs. I felt like having my own theme music and waving my hand in the air like royalty and greeting my subjects.


Before being seated you are able to admire the beautiful flame grilled skewers. Tonight Executive Chef Theresa Connors greeted us in this area and pointed out the people in the kitchen hard at work. There is always a sense of security when you can see all that is being made.


They have it laid out perfectly. Again, this is what you see before you are being seated. How can you possibly not want to devour all of that before you sit down?


Shrimp, Pork, Sirloin, OH MY! This Polynesian cuisine not only looks yummy, but it IS yummy. The kitchen staff also greet the guest coming in as the greeters are giving them a tour of the kitchen, wine choices, and the restaurant.


Tonight we were seated at a table together. There were about 11 of us. As you can see by the tables here the outside view is remarkable. I would say the best view is the one facing the skewers. Now, on to the FOOD stuff!


Edamame Dip and Tropical Chips. The dip was beyond belief. Very fresh and lots of flavor. Avu motto is “A family style tropical island dinner served right at your table”. Yes they did!


Monsoon Platter. This I would say was my favorite part of the meal. The best part about Avu is they keep these coming until you tell them to stop. I wanted those ribs to keep on coming, but I had to restrain myself because a lot more food was coming.


Monsoon Platter comes with dipping sauces. Mango Chili Lime, Sesame Soy Caramel, Spicy Soy. Now don’t get me wrong, all of them are good, but the caramel one was out of this world. Very tasty.


Salad. Tossed greens, shredded carrots and cabbage rice crackers, toasted coconut, carrot ginger vinaigrette. All these flavors combined made it the perfect bite each time.


Accompaniments. Stir fried udon noodles and lemon garlic broccoli. I personally loved the noodles. I could not get enough of them. Especially tasty accompaniment with the meats.


Coffee Colada Chicken Breast.


Root Beer Barbecued Pork.


Citrus Ginger Shrimp.


Kalbi Marinated Sirloin.

All these flamed grilled skewers were delicious. The Avu team truly served it up family style. It was a great feeling to have everyone together at the table sharing stories and enjoying every single item. And I wanted to break out in song and say, “Avu Family Style” (Doing Gangnam style dance now)


Caramelized Pineapple Coconut Milk Cake. Definitely their version of Tres Leches. We even had people at our table who used the left over cream on the bottom and used it in their coffee. That’s how sweet this cake was. Absolute perfection. What a great way to end a great meal. It truly was the cherry on the cake. (Pun intended)

As I always say, if you are ever in the area or tired of the Downtown Disney food. Come on down to Avu-Avu Restaurant.

El Rey De Los Pollos

On the corner of Oak street and the forever full of traffic John Young Parkway.


This is a Dominican restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Great specials and great prices. Loads to choose from. The “everyday buffet” is right!


The buffet line has the usual offerings of meats and your choice of rice. This is all Dominican style food.


Pernil, chicken, beef, etc.


Frituras (fried stuff), soups, pasteles (Puerto Rican tamales), etc.


Yummy desserts. Flan, cakes, and even pineapple. This line also has the macaroni salads.


The restaurant is huge. I couldn’t get a picture of the room to the left of this dining room because it was too dark. It fits a whole bunch of people. Don’t think they are ever filled to capacity.


Two tables near the bar area. The bar area is dark and it has a light that looked horrible in pictures but I took the picture anyway.

@Xobejm was not in the mood to be adventurous. She wanted food from the buffet and I wanted to order from the menu. Baby Girl got the Chicken Empanada with Arroz Con Gandules.


I went all out tonight. Churrasco with white rice and red beans. Mmmmmmmm. I mean really, meat and onions? The picture speaks for itself. Delicious!


For dessert @xobejm ordered the Flan. Nice little portion. Not too sweet. Which is important for us. It was very good.


Mine was the Bizcocho Dominicano. (Dominican Cake) Holy Mother of Dominican goodness. This was very good. Maria, our server said this was a cake made by a certain woman who makes it all the time for the restaurant and that the locals come and purchase lots of it. According to Maria it sells out quickly.


The two sweets put together. YUMMY!! Nice place in Kissimmee. Plenty of parking. Hard to get out of the parking lot because of all the John Young Parkway traffic. Sigh!
