Vino Tinto

Since I moved here from Chicago I have loved Kissimmee. These mom and pop shops are hard to find, but truly worth searching for.

I was greeted immediately with a smile and a good morning. Good customer service is hard to find. I was told what the specials were. They had a variety of hot food (not pictured). They also have made to order sandwiches.

Pollo guisado, yellow rice, and sweet plantains. The chicken came right off the bone when I picked it up. The flavors were perfect. The yellow rice was nice. Mixed veggies and sausage pieces in the rice. It was very good.

Hours of operation. I will have to come early one morning and see what breakfast items they have. Definitely a nice place to come for lunch.

Two Thumbs Up!! Great customer service. Great food. Nice variety. Place is clean and they have specialty coffees as well. As I always say, I will be back again for more.

Homemade Food

Oh yes you did read that correctly. The name of the restaurant is Homemade Food and it’s name suits it well.

The decor caught my eye immediately. The salsa music in the background was a nice touch as well. The place is very clean.

Empanadas. They have typical breakfast specials in the morning. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner Rider Ferreira. He has very proud of his restaurant and told me that he had been open for less than a month.

The ground beef was my dish for the day. The owner was nice enough to let me sample some of the soup they had for today. It was a chicken and beef soup. Very tasty.

Each day they have three proteins: shredded chicken, shredded beef, and Pernil (pork). In addition they will have another protein depending on the day. The option of black beans and red beans made me happy. They also had vegetables.

Love the hours of operations. Hard to find a place that opens early morning. The young lady who served me was very friendly and very helpful. She says they have a great breakfast in the mornings.

Carne Molida with black beans and white rice. This ground beef was amazing. It has been a long time since I have had a good tasting picadillo.

Mango Juice. They have several natural juices to choose from. Regular and Latin sodas are served as well.

Tres Leches. Very good. Not too sweet. It was a good way to end my meal.

Two Thumbs Up!! Rider, gracias por todo. Espero regressed pronto con mi familia. Sorry that I forgot your staff persons name. She was great. Always nice to get excellent customer service.

Pizza A Cone (Pizza A Kono)

Or better known to the folks around here at Pizza A Kono.

(Photo courtesy of Pizza A Kono)

Have been wanting to come here for a long time. Strange because I pass it up every so often. Today was the day to give it a try.

The place is spotless. Very clean and has a very contemporary look. They had a lasagna special today and have garlic bread as well. Lots of choices.

Now I have to warn my American friends. This is a Puerto Rican establishment. Do not be ashamed to use the little Spanish you know or point to their menu on the counter. A smile goes a long way too.

Ferrero Rocher Frappe. I had asked the staff what he suggested. Wow. This is what life is all about. The perfect frappe. I am coming back very soon for another one. Best sugar coma I have had in years.

Italian Sausage pizza in a cone. I love this concept. It’s very new to me. The sausage was perfect and the way the cheese melts all the way down inside the cone is amazing. This is well worth the drive to check this place out.

Two Thumbs Up!!  Great customer service. Came for lunch and it was a bit slow. I would love to see this place on the weekends. Very good.

Don Pepe Taqueria and Mexican Grill

This was definitely a pleasant surprise. I never thought I would see the day when Poinciana had a Mexican restaurant. I guess dreams do come true. Don Pepe is located on Cypress Parkway and Doverplum. In The Promenade plaza. Known to many as the Publix plaza. A bit hard to find, but well worth the search.

When I entered I was greeted by Daphne. She filled me in on the protocol. You come to the counter, you order, she gives you a number, you have a seat, and she brings the food out to you. Nice and simple. The authentic Mexican music playing in the background reminded me of my Dad singing early Saturday mornings. Most places in Kissimmee play any regular Spanish music.

Chips and Salsa were very good. The salsa was not as spicy as I expected it to be, but flavorful. The chips were nice and crunchy. Had way too many of them. Nice. The folks who seem to be the owners were not very welcoming. Mind you, they were working hard in the back, but in no moment asked how everything was going and how the food tasted. Daphne seemed to be the only one making the magic happen.

You can’t ever go wrong with Jarritos. Tamarind was the way to go today. Yes, you are reading that correctly. 100 percent sugar.

Enchiladas Verdes with cheese. I had asked Daphne what she suggested and this was her choice. I like ordering them with cheese. Was expecting white cheese, but the yellow did not disappoint. I noticed people of different races coming in. That makes me happy to know food crosses all cultures.

It was a very generous portion. The prices are not bad at Don Pepe’s. While siting there several locals ordered the natural juices. That will be my choice for the next time.

The decor was amazing. I am a fan of Mexican restaurants since I grew up in Chicago, but have never seen this type of set up. Love it. I am hoping to come back with @vbterp and try some of their tacos. That tends to be our go to order in any new Mexican restaurant.

Operating hours are pretty good.  Open late. They have only been opened for a year, but I see them being successful in this area. I am hoping the community will be open to a Mexican restaurant. Don Pepe has found a niche here and should be here to stay. Daphne, gracias por todo. The service was awesome and the food was great.

Definite TWO THUMBS UP!!

Susan’s Courtside Cafe

Another hard day at work and as soon as court was done I ran to Susan’s Courtside Cafe. I have been here before, but have never blogged about it.

It’s a nice place. Love the look and feel of it. It feels like you are entering Susan’s home.

The decor is outstanding. There is an article in the Orlando Sentinel regarding the house being haunted. Very interesting.

I really do feel like I am in someone’s home just hanging out. It says to be one of the stops on the Haunted House tours in Kissimmee. You should check it out.

Unsweetened Tea with lemon. This is a great way to finish a spring time day.

Reviews raved about the personal pizza so I had to go for it. A bit sad they didn’t have sausage. They use breakfast sausage patties. So, I decided to get the bacon and onions pizza. I am sure would love this.
Overall, nice staff. Pizza took a bit but not too bad. Great looking place, good food. Great prices. Check them out when you are heading to court. : )

Julie’s Broadway Cafe and Bakery

After an interesting day at the courthouse I decided to unwind and head out to downtown Kissimmee. Broadway Cafe has been along for as long as I can remember, but now it’s Julie’s Broadway Cafe.

Do not be fooled by the exterior. The goodies are inside. I have to admit I have been here three times before. I have walked out because of terrible service. That was over three years ago. Lucky for me, Three years ago Julie’s has taken over and the staff were amazing.

The place is spotless and the morning Spanish tunes are playing to put you in the mood to eat. Although, this morning was mostly traffic jam info on I-4. Of course.
I must also give a big shout out to the two guys who gave up their change to help me out in paying at the register. Good people are hard to find nowadays.

Cafe Latte. Their industrial machine is no joke. This was a mean cup of coffee that left me wanting more. As I type this blog I am craving one. They have a variety of drinks to offer and their menu is pretty extensive. They even do catering. Daily lunch specials are not to be missed.

Eggs, Ham, Sausage, Bread. The bread was nice and soft and toasty. Everything was flavorful and made to perfection. A++ for this breakfast. There were two locals who were complimenting the cook in the back. I was very impressed with the presentation and the taste.

They are open from 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday. They did have a sign posted saying they would be opening Saturdays from 9am to 4pm.
Overall, good tasting food, reasonable prices, great customer service. Anytime you are in the historic district of downtown Kissimmee be sure to stop by and say hello to Emily and the gang.
Emily and family, Thank you so much for your great customer service and yummy food. I should have asked for all of your names. Until we meet again.

Nadia’s Mediterranean Cafe

Now in their new and improved location 127 Broadway in the Historic Downtown Kissimmee area. Where the belly dancers come out and play on Saturday nights.

Nadia’s has been in Kissimmee for 2 years now. Since June 2012. Every local Kissimmean comes to Nadia’s for some good old fashion hummus. People say it’s the best in town.

This was my first time here. I was greeted immediately with a smile and warm hello from Nadia herself.

The lunch menu is short and sweet and it all looked yum to the tum. I will have to make it a point to come for dinner as well.

Sampler Platter
Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Falafel, and Tabouli.

Turkish Coffee. Nice and strong. I am bald and grew hair with just one sip.

Baklava. This is done Nadia style. Great texture and perfect sweetness. Most of the time I have tasted this dessert it comes out too sweet. This Baklava was just right.

Various choices for dessert. Nadia comes out and shows you this tray and you are hooked. I wanted to get one of each.

Five Thumbs Up!!
Customer service is top notch with Nadia. Everyone gets treated like a VIP. Food was outstanding.
Nadia, thank you so much for the kind service and amazing food. I will be back very soon.

Lechonera El Jibarito #1

So this is a pretty sweet story. @Xobejm has a classmate who has been with her since pre- K.

Celia and @xobejm have been friends ever since and one day we heard Celia’s parents own a restaurant.

Being the hungry man that I am I asked where it was. El Jibarito has been open for one year so far and it’s in Kissimmee closer to the Poinciana area.

I wanted to come on Labor Day and they were packed. So I left heart broken and with an empty stomach.

I was on a mission to come today no matter what the traffic looked like and fill up my belly!!

Luckily I picked a day and a time where most people are just leaving work. @Xobejm and I were ready to eat.

The place is huge. Very nice and extremely clean. The tables have Puerto Rican names and motifs.

The tables are lower to the floor and the designs are gorgeous.

@Xobejm ordered the Chicken with white rice and beans.

I ordered the Pastel. Had to do it.

I also ordered the Chicken Noodle Soup. This was way too yummy. (All I needed was a soda on the side)
Overall the service was excellent. Food was on point. Everything had flavor and we left that place licking our fingers. This is a must try in Kissimmee.
Hector y Lisandra. Muchas gracias por todo. Todo estaba delicioso. Tienen un restaurante muy lindo. Los deseo mucha suerte.

Moe’s Gyro and Grill

Moe’s has just moved in the Osceola Mall. Now known as Plaza Del Sol.

Moe has come to Kissimmee to show the folks how a good Greek Gyro is made. He has a variety of other options. And because of the demographic of this mall he also makes Puerto Rican sandwiches.

Greek Gyro. Since I am originally from Chicago I felt it was necessary for me to try this one. The portion was a bit smaller than what I’m used to. The meat was good and the ingredients were fresh, but it was just okay it wasn’t fantastic.

Greek Salad. I was heading to work so I had to bring all of it to go. The Greek salad was okay as well. It had all the right ingredients and since I had just traveled from Greece I was in the mood for one of the salads. Again it didn’t blow my mind or my taste buds.
Overall, the place has potential. Moe is an amazing guy. Loves what he does and has only been here for a few months. he has very decent lunch specials and the clientele may be a little bit hard for him to get because of the demographic, but I feel like it has a chance to be successful here in the mall.

Two Thumbs Up!

What an amazing way to spend a Saturday morning. @Droolius, @Joeyme1, @kokocooks @tytyeats, and @vbterp

This was my post-birthday celebration. It was a time when we were all able to get together and celebrate my big 4-0!

@Xobejm was hanging out with her cousins and she was truly missed. We were on a mission to eat as much as we could and this is how it started. Buchito is a Cuban Cafe.

Cuban Sandwich

Cuban and Cortadito

Cafe con leche.

The Alexandre: Pastrami, Cheese, Bacon, lettuce, and tomato.

Homemade Desserts: Flan, Key Lime, Chocolate Cake

The service is amazing. So far the two sandwiches we’ve had have been really good. It’s been around now for about six months. This is a nice little place to come to for breakfast and lunch. You will not be disappointed. Come Hungry. The prices are reasonable.
