Taj Mahal (Nasssau, Bahamas)

Here we were with @tarajroth. Our last meal at Nassau of 2013. We had to go out and venture out on the island and get some good grub.

As always I asked around to crew members and I was told to check out Taj Mahal. Formerly known as Green Shutters. It was an Irish Pub way back in the day.

@tarajroth and I walked out and had no idea where to go. Luckily, I am not a typical male and asked for directions as many times as I could. It seemed the locals were sending us all kinds of different ways.

Finally a taxi driver led us to the right direction. From Bay Street you go to Parliament and go up the hill. Taj Mahal is on the right.

The Green shutters cannot be missed. We walked in and some locals were sitting down enjoying a good meal. We were greeted by a lovely young lady and sat down near the bar area.

Mango Lassi with Cinnamon

Chicken Vindaloo. The spice was perfect. I walked out sweating. Just like I like it.

Chicken Korma. @tarajroth ordered this one. I didn’t want to taste it because my dish was so yummy.

Garlic Naan. Very garlicky. Amazing.

Feast Shot.

The place is expensive, but worth every penny. The portions are more than generous and the flavor and spice was like no other. Service is spot on. I will be going back and taking friends here.

Two Thumbs Up.

The Old Gaol Cafe (Grand Cayman)

Grand Cayman today and had to look for a new food-venture. I wouldn’t say the owners were rude. Probably just more shocked that a Latino was stopping by and eating their food. I saw Old Gaol Cafe on line and didn’t think twice about it. As I was walking looking for any place that was unique I happened to find Old Gaol Cafe.

Indian buffet and menu items as well. On a side street in front of Emerald Marquise. On South Church and Goring Avenue. The seating is outside. Covered and no breeze was rough, but it was the true island experience. The owners were sitting a few tables away from me enjoying their own food. That made me feel good about what I was eating.

On the menu they have hot dogs and burgers for the non adventurers. The menu mostly consists of Indian dishes.

Chicken Korma and Sag Aloo
They had other choices on the buffet menu but I loved the Korma and Sag Aloo. And the saffron rice made it twice as good.

This was the buffet options for today. I should have tried a bit of each. Maybe next time. Come and check it out for yourself. Nice place. Ask the locals and they will lead you the right way.

Two Thumbs Up!!

Khushi Indian Restaurant (St Maarten)

This day was an Indian food day. I have been to St Maarten several times before and always went to the same Indian restaurant. While walking to it I found out it has closed for good. So, I had to search for another one.

Khushi is hidden in the corner. Just to the left of the courthouse. Cash only and no credit cards. Free Wifi is always nice. When I arrived the staff seemed a bit apprehensive. I am sure they have never seen a Latino in their place before. I smiled and said I wanted to sit and eat.

The place is very small. Not sure if they ever get super busy or not. I did experience firsthand what it’s like when the crew members arrive. While sitting there all alone about 10 crew members showed up. Three of which I knew very well.

Mango Lassi was a great way to start my afternoon. Made on the spot.

Samosas. These were served with meat. Nice and crispy. The green sauce added a bit of kick to the samosas.

No Garlic Naan today, so I had to settle for Roti. It was good, but the garlic Naan would have hit the spot.

Chicken Vindaloo (Spicy) I could have had more spice. I think they make it more Americanized to be safe with the customers. I would have loved it extremely spicy.

The combination of the rice and vindaloo were perfect. Again, just would have wanted it spicier. Also, the food was warm but not hot. I could hear them cooking in the back, but it was not steaming hot.

Overall, nice place. Cash only. Staff is nice but don’t expect Disney type service. While speaking to one of the crew members he said it perfectly. He would rate it a 7 between 1 and 10. I would say I agree. Free wifi is a big plus. Come and give it a try for yourself.

I would say One Thumb Up.

Saffron Indian Cuisine

What a great way to start the day. As I always say, “Great eats, Great peeps.” Lunch Bunch get togethers are my favorite. Getting to eat with people you love hanging out with is a true blessing.

Today was Saffron Indian Cuisine day and we were excited and ready to eat. The gang came in with empty bellies and we were seated instantly. @Tarajroth @OrlandoFamStyle @orlandouncorked @wholycheesus @kokocooks @eatlocalorlando, Max and yours truly were all in attendance.

Mango Lassi. Best way to start. My all time favorite drink. I do prefer it on the much colder side. This one was warm, but still tasty.

Papadum and Naan. Were the talk of the table. The Papadum with the black pepper on it and the Naan was excellent. Now….. Let’s talk FOOD!!!

Chicken Korma, Samosa, Rice, and other goodies. @Tarajroth ordered this one and got it medium. I had a bite and it was very good. This is @tarajroth’s go to dish.

Chicken Vindaloo, Samosa, Rice, and other goodies. This was my dish and I ordered it spicy. Great taste. I love the chicken with the potatoes together. It’s my go to dish.

Chicken Tikka Roll with French Fries and Raita. This one was the best tasting item I ate. Filled with veggies and great tasting spices on the inside. I shared the other half with @wholycheesus and he enjoyed it as well.

Feast Shot. As you know my favorite picture to take. The whole Foodie Familia eating and sharing. Does my heart good.

Thanks to the UYE crew for hosting this event. @OrlandoFamStyle you are amazing as always.

Foodie Familia, I love you guys and until we “Eat” again.

Passage to India

Big thanks are in order to @droolius and Jenni for joining us in our food adventures tonight!

Best place to get some good Indian food in Kissimmee area near Disney.

Great weather in Kissimmee tonight. We had to eat some good Indian food with some good people.

The restaurant is very elegant. Not very full this evening. Although more people came in during our stay.

The tables are nicely set up and Chrissy who was our server was working hard in the back and the front of the house.

We started with the sauces and of course the @droolius phone sticker. Looks like a real case. Very cool. Sweet Mango Chutney, Onions, and Mint Chutney.

You always have to start with some Samosas. Very good. Nice and light this evening.

And the Garlic Naan is always a must. @Xobejm couldn’t get enough of this.

Passage to India Assorted Platter. Mouth watering combination of Samosas, Pakora, and Onion Bhaji. We loved them all. Very tasty. Especially tasty with the sauces.

All together makes a great picture. We shared all of these.

We ordered family style. That is the way @droolius and I love to eat. @Tarajroth and @xobejm and Jenni shared all of the food. We literally got a bite of everything. I will have the names of all the dishes below.

Family Style Feast Shot. My Chicken Vindaloo was Spicy. Just like I like it. So, here is now the list of what we had:

Foodbidden: Chicken Vindaloo. (Spicy) Succulent pieces of chicken marinated in vinegar and spices and cooked in a hot Goan sauce with potatoes.

@Droolius: Palak Paneer. Cubes of homemade cottage cheese cooked with spinach and fresh spices.

@Xobejm: Chicken Tikka. Tender pieces of boneless chicken marinated in mild spices and yogurt and roasted and a clay oven.

@Tarajroth: Chicken Korma. Juicy breast of chicken simmered in a rich cream sauce.

Jenni: Chicken Saag Wala. Boneless breast of chicken cooked with fresh spinach and spices.

Fantastic dinner with fantastic people. All in all we all loved it. Not for someone on a budget. This is a pricey restaurant, but worth every penny.

Chrissy, You rock!! You went above and beyond with your service tonight. We truly appreciated all the details on the food and your recommendations. Thank you so much.

Foodbidden (and the Gang) APPROVED!!!

Apna Punjab Indian Restaurant

Located on 535 and Osceola Parkway. The all day buffet caught my eye.

Even though I am sure I will order from the menu because I am in a spicy sort of mood.

Nice little set up for the buffet. I did ask if any items were spicy and I was told mild. So, I ordered from the menu.

I like the bar set up. They offer a variety of beers and wines. Place looks very clean and well maintained. They have been here for about 8 months now.

Today I chose the Chicken Vindaloo (Spicy). For next time I will ask for Asian spicy. It had the right kick to it, but I like it to burn. Amazing taste.

Cheese Naan. Although I always get the Garlic naan. Today I went with cheese. Note to self, next time get Cheese and Garlic. This was perfect with my meal.

The whole meal. A side of rice comes with it and they always make sure you have enough rice. Now, don’t get me wrong, the buffet was $9.99 which is a great deal for anyone on a budget. I ordered from the menu and it was pricey, but worth it in my opinion.

Tarik, thank you so much for your service. You are a very kind man. I will be back with friends and family.

Euro-Tandoor

Nassau, Bahamas.

Summer and I were told by a lovely crew member about a new place she had tried on the island. I was a bit hesitant at first, but I figure you only live once and had to check it out. Thank you so much Summer for indulging me in my craziness with @foodspotting.

Originally, I thought it was only Indian food. They had Italian as well. Mr. Govind Chhatlani, the owner, spoke to us at our table to see how we were doing and enjoying our food.

This used to be a European sandwich shop way back in the day. Many crew members come for the free Wifi. Thanks to our server for the password to access the Internet. Unfortunately, we never got her name. Great server.

There were four ships at port today, so different crew members from different ships were here checking their emails and enjoying a cup of coffee. One local came in and went straight to the food. Summer and I started with the Samosas. Summer got the chicken and I got the veggie ones.

We were told by the owner, Govind, that he just started adding the chicken samosas to the menu. He asked how we liked it and we said we loved it. Thanks Summer for sharing your Samosa with me. The veggie ones were good. A bit spicier than the chicken ones, but the chicken ones were fantastic. This was Summer’s first time and I am so happy she enjoyed her order. The odd part was being offered Ketchup or Hot Sauce with our order. I obviously, chose both. Not typical for me to have a Samosa with those toppings but it was very tasty. I actually enjoyed it. Very different from your typical chutney, mango, pickled sauces.

I tried to be gentle while cutting into them to take a great picture, but was not successful. Again, to give you the idea of what the insides looked like. While I am writing this I can taste that chicken with all the herbs and spices.

Several choices to be made and I decided to keep it simple today. Chicken Curry with white rice. Great choice. Spicy enough to provide that sweat from the forehead and clear the sinuses at the end of the meal. It was great. It’s always nice to get off the ship and find dishes with some true flavor.

I tend to always order the Garlic Naan. Unfortunately, they had none today, so I had to order the Garlic Roti. Wasn’t my preference, but I said yes and ordered it. I was happy I did. This Roti was nice and soft and complemented my dish perfectly. Thanks to our server for the suggestion.

I am trying to always add the “Feast” picture to show all that I had. We had a great time and I have to say it was nice that Summer enjoyed it. Her first time eating a Samosa was a success.

Summer APPROVED!!

Foodbidden APPROVED!!

The place is small but had lots of character. Nice decor and at the same time very simple. Some stools to sit outside as well. Only about two tables outside. No smoking inside, only outside. Thank you Govind.

If ever in Nassau. Check them out. Govind speaks to all his customers to be sure they are taken care of. He wants to be sure his customers are satisfied with the quality of his food.

Afterwards, I had to get chocolates for wifey at Sugar Happens. Be sure to read my blog about this candy store. They have it all. Thanks to @signcarmelo who introduced us to this place. Scary that the ladies from the candy store recognize me now. : )
