Mervis’ Cafe and Grille

How many people can say they went to Ft. Pierce to work for a day.

It was bright and early when I left Kissimmee. I arrived at Fort Pierce around 8 AM and was looking for a local place to eat near my assignment.

The reviews mentioned that this was a very nice Cuban Café. I had to try it for myself. They have been in this location for 13 years. The owner knew immediately I was not from there. A lot of locals come here for their sandwiches and coffee.

Egg, Ham, and Cheese Sandwich. I wasn’t sure what to get and they suggested this sandwich. It was very good. Made on Cuban bread.

Cafe con Leche. Very nice coffee. I was wired for a bit after drinking this.

Overall, very good customer service. It’s located inside a post office so it seems strange at first. Again, many locals come to get their food here. Everybody around this area knows about this place. It’s definitely a must try.

Matilda’s On Park

This blog post is in honor of @dafoodie and @talktochu! Mega Super Gracias for the suggestion and invite to Matilda’s.

Park avenue is the place to be in Winter Park for a great meal. Today was a group eating sort of day.

We arrived for lunch. It was about 11:30am. @ExplorinOrlando @bstreett5 @winechix @tarajroth @eatlocalorlando @dafoodie and @talktochu and myself (@foodbidden) were in attendance.

Matilda’s accommodated all of us without a problem. Luckily, @dafoodie had given them a heads up that we would ALL be arriving.

The place is very nice. According to @dafoodie this location has had several name changes. It has only been Matilda’s for about 8 months now.

Located on Park Avenue and Canton. The staff is no joke. Everyone is friendly and knowledgable about their dishes. Today Ashley was our server and handled the group very well. Now, LET’S TALK COMIDA!!

@Eatlocalorlando dish: Shrimp Gumbo

@Eatlocalorlando dish: Bacon Cowboy Ranch Salad

@Tarajroth dish: Mad Mac Bites. Our famous mac blended with bacon, deep-fried, and drizzled in secret sauce.

@tarajroth dish: Barbie Fries with cheddar cheese sauce.

@foodbidden dish: Roo Burger. Kangaroo meat is beef like, but with its own full-bodied flavor. Served with our cheese lager sauce, onion straws.

Roo Burger with Truffle fries.

@winechix dish: Popeye Mac and Cheese. Goat cheese, sautéed spinach, artichokes, roasted red pepper, and roasted garlic.

@Tarajroth dish: Buffalo Chicken Mac. Tender white chicken, cheddar and American cheese, blended with our famous secret sauce.

@dafoodie dish: Trio Grilled Chicken Tacos. Tequila honey lime, marinated chicken over lettuce, topped with roasted corn, salsa, fresh avocado, and lime, cilantro cream.

@talktochu dish: Banana Bread Pudding with strawberries and ice cream.

Overall, a fantastic experience. This is a place we are planning to go to again. Very laid back for lunch. Lots of TV screens for game days. The greeting when entering the restaurant is a very nice touch and the opening of the door when we walked out made me feel like a VIF. (Very Important Foodie)

Ashley, thank you so much for the great service and making all those fantastic recommendations for us. They were spot on.

Yalaha Bakery (Orlando)

Nice little place in Orlando. Ivanhoe Village is lucky to have this awesome little bakery in town. All the goodies are brought in from the actual Yalaha bakery in Yalaha Florida.

Believe it or not all these people here today were talking about not knowing about this place and how they happened to find it by accident.

I had to chime in and tell them that I was in the same boat. I never heard of it until today. They have been here for a year and a half. Now, on to the SWEET STUFF!

Fruit Slice Raspberry. Cindy was the one helping me out today and I got her to tell me one of her recommendations.

Almond Horn. This was Cindy’s suggestion. Great tasting treat. She said if I liked marzipan that I would love this one. She was right.

Overall, nice little place to be for a nice hot latte and a sweet treat. Ask for Cindy she will steer ya in the right direction.

Kissimmee Bakery and Restaurant

It has been a long time since I have eaten here. My buddy Enrique and I come here for their Pupusas. This bakery is a Puerto Rican and Salvadorian restaurant.
They have been in Kissimmee for over 14 years. The locals come for the lunch specials and bakery treats.

The people here are super friendly. Lots of Central American warmness in this place. I was greeted with a smile as soon as I walked in. They are open from 7:30am to 8pm Monday to Saturday. They open at 10am Sundays.

Nice looking place. Not too small. This place becomes super busy during lunch and dinner. My father in law loves their chicken soup. Everything is made to order. It has always been a hard place to find. 192 traffic is so crazy that if you blink you will definitely miss it.

The cafe con leche is always a must. One thing about Kissimmee, you should bring your own Splenda. Only regular sugar here.

Breakfast special. Eggs, bacon, ham, toast, and fries. Best breakfast ever! Delicious. Crispy bacon which @tarajroth would love. The toast is awesome with the butter inside. I had them add in the ham because it sounded good, and it was. You usually have a choice of one protein.

Kissimmee Bakery, Gracias por todo. El desayuno estuvo riquísimo. Pienso regresar pronto con la familia.

They have a love of food like I do. And they love to explore all the local places in town. Since Angela has read my blog she had an idea of what pictures to send me.

The menu looks great. Everyday happy hour got my attention on this one. Not to mention the great lunch specials.

You can never go wrong with Turkish Tea. Angela is a big tea fan and she can tell ya how to make a great cup of tea.

Cheese and Tomato stuffed bread with a side salad. Tim and Angela truly made me smile. They are taking @droolius type food shots. Or should I say @kokocooks shots. Not sure, I am a fan of both of their styles.

This was my favorite picture of ALL. Tim, my father in law giving the “Foodbidden Approved” sign. This is awesome.

Angela and Tim, thank you so much for the pictures and contributing to Foodbidden.Wordpress.Com and spreading the word of local restaurants.
Great pictures.

Shin Jung Korean Restaurant

Shin Jung

Wow!! Where do I begin. I mean it would be easier to say read @tastychomps blog and I could go to sleep. He describes it perfectly in his blog. So, here I go. Today for lunch it was @droolius @kokocooks @Joeyme1 @tytyeats @tarajroth @xobejm and myself.

I will attempt to write about our experience at Shin Jung. One word: UNBELIEVABLE! This was my first time ever eating Korean food. Big Props to @kokocooks for picking this place. It was amazing. Ok, lets get to the FOOD stuff. Pictured above is the Toasted Rice Tea (Sungyung) @tarajroth @Joeyme1 and @kokocooks ordered this one and it was good. Nice for a semi chilly afternoon.

Next, @Joeyme1 recommended the Kimchi pancake. HOLY MOTHER OF DELICIOUSNESS! Keep in mind all these flavors are new to me and I couldn’t get enough. It was very very good.

Pan Fried dumplings were next. I love eating with @kokocooks and @Joeyme1 @droolius because we always order family style and share a bit of everything. My kind of Food Loving Folks (#FOLOFO).

I started singing the Alicia Keys song, “THIS GRILL IS ON FIIIIIIRE!!!”. Little did I know what was about to happen.

The biggest shock came to me when our server put all these lovely bowls on our table. Don’t ask me what it was. God bless @droolius for describing what each one was. If you have any questions look him up on http://www.droolius.com.

This is one when the situation got a lot better. Kal Bi, Bul Go Gi, Pork, and Sliced Pork Belly. DANG! I mean, there is no other word, but DANG. Inappropriate for a blog? Definitely, but it truly expresses how I felt at the moment and it expresses how amazing it tasted.

Chef @droolius did the honors this time around and made sure all the meats were cooked at their appropriate temperatures.

This gives you an idea the amount of meat that was given to us. Now, remember that we also have some on the grill already. Lots of meat to be eaten.

This is the Japchae. This dish was ordered by @Joeyme1 and @kokocooks. I never like to take credit for something I didn’t order, but I had to post it because it was delicious. I ate a lot of this one. Thanks @Joeyme1 and @kokocooks for sharing this dish with me and letting me take some to go. You two rock!!

Family style eating is what it’s all about. We had a wonderful time. I would suggest this place to anyone in a second. Great little place in Orlando. Very friendly staff and they help you out with the cooking as well. As @tastychomps pointed out in his blog about Shin Jung, you can easily miss this place while driving.

No denying I pick people who enjoy good food and lots of it. I was about to cry at one point. All my family is in Chicago. This was my little family for the day. Just partaking in great food, great conversations, great laughs, with great company. Thank you so much to @droolius @Joeyme1 @kokocooks @tytyeats @xobejm @tarajroth for making this lunch super awesome.

Red Eye BBQ

Photo courtesy of The Unoffical Restaurant Review Of Orlando.

It was not a good day for me. I had a hard time in of the restaurants in Kissimmee and I was very upset. I decided to drive 40 minutes to Red Eye BBQ for some good service and great food. I had been here before with @kokocooks and @Joeyme1. It was delicious and the owner was very nice. It was their first day of business. It was nice to be there for the opening. I knew this would be a great place since there is a family connection somehow to @darlandbakery. Any family of @darlandbakery is like family to me.
I came a month later. This was @xobejm and @tarajroth first time here. They didn’t know what to expect. We have had BBQ but we hadn’t found the perfect BBQ spot. Especially, around the Kissimmee area. We started with an appetizer.

The Red Eye Sliders. I have not been a cornbread fan until I tasted these. Loads of flavor and their sauce is amazing. They also have their signature sauces that you can choose from.

@Tarajroth got the Chili. Great taste and it wasn’t too overwhelming with meat and spices. It was just right. The cheese on top made this Chili bowl absolutely perfect.

@Xobejm got the Mac and Cheese with Veggies. The presentation was amazing for every dish we got. Makes it ideal for taking good food pics. Baby girl enjoyed it immensely. I tasted some of her dish and it was very good. Again, not overwhelming with cheese but just the right balance.

@Tarajroth got the Mojo Joe Burger as her entree. Fried egg, cheddar cheese bacon and ranch dressing. The perfect bite. All those flavors together were mouth watering good. We cut this puppy in half and all the juices coming out made me want to take one huge bite.

My dish was the Ribs, Pulled Pork, and Beef Brisket with baked beans. I wanted to taste a bit of everything and this was the perfect dish for me. I was able to take advantage and taste a bit of all their sauces as well. Everything was tasty.

I called this shot the family feast shot. Incredible. So many choices on their menu. We only experienced the tip of it. Ocoee Florida has lucked out having this restaurant in their neighborhood.
