Cafe Caobana

Today work took me to Orlando. Welcome to the busiest street I have ever experienced, Semoran. This little gem is a bit hard to spot, but worth making U-turns and dealing with traffic.

Nice interior decor. The one issue was entering and not being greeted in a friendly way. The woman seemed to be in a bad mood when I came in the restaurant.

The sweet section. This is a sugar coma waiting to happen. These look to be worth the migraine. Couldn’t do any of the desserts today. I was on a mission to get a good sandwich.

Cafe con leche. Those little vanilla wafers are a great touch to this drink. While I am typing I am still feeling that caffeine in my veins. My actual server was very friendly and very helpful.

Media Noche. Ham, cheese, pork, pickles, mayo, and mustard. This was the suggestion from the server and a great one at that.

Two Thumbs Up!!  Lacking in the friendly gretting department when you walk in, but overall a very clean and nice looking place. To my server, gracias por todo. Un placer de conocerla.

Las Paraguitas Cafe

While leaving the port and heading home we wanted to make a quick stop before heading to Kissimmee. @urbanspoon was able to guide us to this lovely place in Hollywood Florida.

Los Paraguitas (The Little Umbrellas). In a small shopping center on the corner of Hollywood Blvd and SR 7.

Nice little place with a lot of character. The locals would come in and get their Cortadito and be on their way. Angela and I decided on the Cafe con Leche instead.

We like it “Clarito” with a little more milk. It is obvious they are using Cafe Bustelo. The smooth taste comes through in every sip.

Pericos breakfast. (Not pictured: Toast). Eggs, onions, tomatoes, green peppers, ham. I have said this before, but my dad used to make them with onions and tomatoes and I always loved them cooked this way.

Cuban Sandwich. This was Angela’s dish. I was telling her that you would think such a simple sandwich would be easy to make, but it’s not. Here in Los Paraguitas they make it just right. Nice to be able to be in Hollywood Florida and get a Cuban sandwich from a Cuban Cafe. It’s kind of a novelty here in Kissimmee/Orlando.

Muchos pero muchos thanks to Angela for joining me on my adventures. A true foodie at heart!

Padrinos Cuban Cuisine

After a first day back to work and barely getting through my assignment I took all the little energy I had left and came to have some lunch. Luckily, my flu symptoms have improved.

Padrino’s Cuban Cuisine is located in the Hunters Creek area. Inside the Village at Hunters Creek.

I came early to take pictures. They open at 11:30am and close late night. Again, I got caught in the lunch rush. Lots of locals come here. Today struck me as odd. Lots of business people having lunch meetings. Big groups. They talked about how much they loved the food here.

The place is gorgeous. Feels very Cuban when you walk in. Although, many of the wait staff are not from Cuba.

The little coffee bar is awesome. I would love to stop by one day and order a Cortadito. Claudia was my server today and she suggested the Lechon Asado.

The service started out with a basket of plantain chips and a side of mojo. Very good. I did ask Claudia what the mojo contained. She said it had garlic, olive oil, and onions. She had me at garlic.

Lechon Asado. Slow roasted pork marinated with citrus mojo and topped with sautéed onions served with arroz moro and yuca. Delicious. What a great lunch! They had a variety of lunch specials.

Had a choice between the Flan and the Tres Leches. Had to pick the Tres Leches. The consistency was different than expected. It wasn’t as moist as I thought it would be. It also came with sprinkles of cinnamon which gave it an interesting taste.

The whole menu is pricey but worth every penny. Great place to have some great Cuban food.
