Poncitlan Jalisco

I was craving a good Mexican breakfast for about three years now. Which was the last time I was here.

This was a great way to start my morning. I flew in to Chicago today and my parents took me straight to their favorite Mexican breakfast place. Poncitlan has been here for years. They have become good friends with my parents. Jose the owner of Poncitlan jokes with my dad about which soccer team they root for.

The place is pretty big. I mean it is no Kissimmee. This has much room and the staff here are working hard in the kitchen making every order as quickly as possible.

Guacamole. I love going to good Mexican restaurants and ordering this. All of the ingredients nice and fresh. Just what the doctor ordered.

Salsa and Guacamole.
Elvia was our server today. When we walked in the table was set and the menus laid on the table. Elvia knew my parents would be coming today since they come every Sunday. The place gets full quickly with all the locals. By the time we left people were waiting outside to be seated. Now lets talk FOOD!!

Desayuno Poncitlan. The Poncitlan breakfast. 3 over easy eggs, topped with ranchero sauce and ribeye.

Desayuno Poncitlan.
This is the same dish with no ranchero sauce. My mom and dad like it plain. I enjoyed it with the sauce on top.

Chilaquiles Rojos.
I was very hungry after a short flight from Orlando. I always have to order one more thing just to have something extra. I ordered this as a side. It tends to come with eggs and steak as well.

Elvia y Jose, Gracias for todo. Mis papas siempre hablan de ustedes y que siempre los tratan muy bien. Se los agradezco mucho.

El Tenampa Mexican Restaurant

With their new and improved look Tenampa is leading the way in Mexican food in this area. Rated as one of the best in any app, website, review, etc. This is a hard place to get into. Always busy! Full of people from literally all over the world.

It used to look pretty bad and beat up. The parking lot is still a little scary, but I like how they spruced this place up.

Today was a daddy daughter day. @Xobejm was feeling adventurous so we decided to come to Tenampa.

We arrived right at 5:00pm. I knew that would be a good time to beat all the local traffic and the tourist traffic as well. Tenampa is next to the India Diner.

Even the menu got a facelift. Loads to choose from. @Xobejm decided to play it safe and order the quesadilla. I had to get the steak.

Jugo de Mango, Piña, and Lemonade. Lucia our server brought it out for us to try their different jugos. Very tasty. Our favorite was the Lemonade. We also had to make it into a Mickey Mouse shape. : )

I ordered the jugo de guayaba. This jugo hits the spot all the time. Delicioso!

Chips and salsa to start our food adventure. We always have to be careful with how much we eat because we don’t want to get too full. Now….on with the FOOD STUFF!!!!

Arrachera El Tenampa. Steak with cactus and grilled onions,
rice, beans, avocado, and pico de gallo. It deserved two pictures. The meat was outstanding and the hot pepper was super spicy. That made me very happy.

Chicken and Cheese quesadilla with rice and beans. This was @xobejm dish. She was so overwhelmed with all the choices she decided to go the safe route.

Flan. Ok, ok. I know I say the same old thing every time. I am not a fan, but I had to try it. Made for a great photo too. This flan was great. Seriously, over the top great. Maybe I am becoming a fan of flan now.

Tres Leches. This was interesting. The berries in the middle just didn’t do it for me. The icing on the top is good. Not my favorite. I rather go with the flan.

Overall great place.
Lucia, Gracias for the great customer service. You were awesome!

La Herradura Mexican Restaurant

Mexican restaurant with some class. Great looking interior. Used to be Martin’s BBQ on the the corner of John Young Parkway and Deerfield. Now it has been redesigned and has had a facelift. Welcome La Herradura to Orlando. It’s been open for three weeks now.

Love the decor. Staff is beyond friendly. As soon as I was approaching the entrance the staff opened the door for me as welcomed me to the restaurant.

Some locals were here already enjoying the lunch specials and the mid afternoon margaritas.

Plenty of room on the inside but even more seating outside. Today was chilly so I chose to sit indoors. I would love to see this place at night full of people enjoying the food and the ambience.

Chips and salsa are always the perfect start to a good meal. Millena was my server today and she was so pleasant. Great service is a must for me.

Number 4 Lunch combo. One grilled cheese steak and one grilled cheese chicken taco with rice, beans, and salad.

Number 4 Lunch Combo. Everything was delicious. The chicken and the steak were very well made. La Herradura should and will be doing big things in this location. BUEN PROVECHO!!

Millena, Gracias por tu servicio y tu sonrisa tan linda. La comida estuvo deliciosa. Voy a regresar con mi familia muy pronto.

Valerie’s Mexican Restaurant and Bakery

This establishment has Closed

Valerie’s has been here for two years and I found it by accident today. Best accident ever! 192 is always on the go and it’s always a traffic nightmare. While looking for a new place with @xobejm we found this beautiful gem of a restaurant.

Now I have always said, being Guatemalan and living in Kissimmee has made me a Mexican restaurant pro. While living in Chicago my parents always took me to Mexican restaurants. So, I have become the Mexican dining connoisseur. Kissimmee has now had more Mexican restaurants come into town.

Valerie’s is a restaurant and bakery. As you can tell by the picture they have a bit of everything. Some groceries can be picked up while getting your baked needs on this side and getting an authentic home cooked meal on the other side.

Don’t be fooled by her size. Valerie’s packs a punch when it comes to their menu selection. Carmen the woman behind all the magic makes her meals truly authentic, Guanajato Style (Insert Gangnam Style dance). While Ramon the new owner greets the customers who come in with a smile. Now, lets get to the FOOD stuff!!!

Steak taco to start with. My “Go To” dish at any Mexican restaurant. Nice bite six steak taco with cilantro and onions. Also, a side of grilled onions and lime. Perfect combination.

Steak Torta. With the works, tomato, lettuce, mayo, beans, etc. @xobejm and I like the bread extra toasty. It gives the sandwich more crunch. I chose all my dishes with steak today. I was feeling carnivorous. Great flavor in this sandwich. Carmen was happy to hear that we liked her sandwich. She emphasized that the secret ingredient is that she cooks with love.

Chilaquiles Rojos with rice, beans, and salad with avocado. The Guanajato style comes with steak, cilantro, onions, and a spicy kick that made my nose run for about thirty minutes. AMAZING!! So much kick I should have bought shin guards.

Carne Asada with rice, beans, side salad, and avocado. The meals also come with corn tortillas that are nice and hot when served to the table. Once again, great flavor! The meat was nice and tender.

Steak Gordita. I would say the picture says it all. The presentation alone is amazing. I couldn’t stop looking at it. Carmen went above and beyond on this one. She truly is an artist. Filled it to the gills with complete yumminess. This is not your regular gordita. Valerie’s has taken this gordita to a whole new level. DELICIOUS!

Baby Girl and I were too full to even see the dessert menu. We will be going again soon. Guaranteed! If the secret ingredient is love than I will be back several more times for it. Fantastic place. I highly recommend it. Great prices, great people, and amazing food. You can’t go wrong at Valerie’s!

Ramon y Carmen. Muchísimas Gracias for ser tan amables conmigo y mi nena. Nos encanta comer, pero más que todo nos encanta las personas que son cariñosas. Se nota que tienen mucho orgullo en lo que hacen. Los felicito por tener un negocio realmente Mejicano en Kissimmee. Ya saben que nos veremos muy pronto.

Azteca’s Mexican Restaurant

This one was a pleasant find on Main Street in Kissimmee.

@Xobejm and I were heading towards downtown Kissimmee when we came across Azteca’s. Now, I know what you are thinking. Let me explain. During my 14 years in Kissimmee this place has been here, but just remodeled. The other Aztecas are the chain locations. Some end with Oro, or D’Oro, etc. This one has a similar name but this one is the local restaurant.

Chips and Salsa. Good start to a long work day. Salsa was fresh and not watered down. @Xobejm enjoyed this. It didn’t taste like it was made yesterday. Good stuff.

Uxmal. White melted cheese topped with chorizo. (Mexican sausage) This comes with freshly made tortillas. I haven’t had this in years. I like to put it in the tortilla and make a little taco of it. Very Cheesy! YUM!

Cheese quesadilla with a side of sour cream. Baby Girl wasn’t feeling adventurous today, so she went plain and simple. She loved it. Very tasty.

Plato Azteca. A combination of Tamal, Taco, Tostada with beef. At first glance I was a little shocked by the size, but it was definitely manageable.

Enchiladas Suizas. Chicken enchiladas covered with ranchero salsa, sour cream, and melted cheese. This was for @tarajroth. I got this for her To Go.

Flan. Homemade creamy egg custard with caramel sauce.

Napoleon special. Fried plantains with sweet cream and Cajeta (Mexican Caramel) with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The owner of Azteca’s his name is Napoleon. This was the perfect dessert for me.

Delicia’s Cafe. Colombian Restaurant

Delicia’s Cafe

It’s been in Kissimmee for as long as I can remember. In my opinion the best Bandeja Paisa in town. Yep, I said it. Great Colombian food. I remember when we used to come here with co-workers. And we used to come here very often.

The owners are very nice. They have been extremely humbled by the economy and how it has affected their business. Yet, they remain open despite all the surrounding restaurants going out of business. It is so easy to miss. It is located on 192 and Dyer. Literally, in front of the Suntrust building. It’s a small strip mall and Delicia’s is the last place on the corner. Very hard to spot if you are not from here.

Very small place. 6 tables in the whole restaurant and four stools to sit on a table that looks out to the parking lot and resembles a small bar. Their operating hours are 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and Saturday 8am to 5:30pm. Their breakfast specials are fantastic. Their scrambled eggs with onion and tomatoes are the best. 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and Saturday 8am to 5:30pm.

The locals come in and out very often just to get their Pan De Bono, empanadas, Chicharron, and Papas Rellenas. The prices are high, but very much worth it.

This picture truly depicts how small the place is. Yet, the locals love it. They also come for juices, Colombian candies, and specialty dishes. Now, on to the food!

Two eggs, steak, two slices of tomato. Excellent way to start my day. Truly a breakfast of champions.

Wifey ordered the Calentado, Two eggs, rice and beans mixed together and an Arepa.

These are truly the hidden gems in Kissimmee. The little hole in the wall places that serve you some of the best food ever made. BUEN PROVECHO TO ME!! Now Let’s eat before the food gets cold.
