St John’s Vianney Fish Fry

This was a special night for @vbterp and I. @aabreu had been mentioning for a few years now that her church had a Fish Fry.

The delicious event happens every Friday after Ash Wednesday at the end of February and continues for six weeks.

Tonight was the last evening of the fish fry until next year. @Vbterp and I were not scheduled to work so we made our way to St. John’s to meet up with @aabreu and @luiabreu.

Our first question was. Do we have to be part of the church? You do not. Anyone and everyone is welcomed to the Fish Fry. It’s held in the gym, so there is plenty of leg room.

These people were not scared off by the rain tonight. Everyone was here to get their fried fish fix. The priest said a quick prayer and announced, “START YOUR ENGINES!!” I won’t lie, as soon as he said that my stomach started to growl.

Yes. Beer and wine are served for a nominal fee. They have complimentary coffee, lemonade, and iced tea.

So many items to choose from and so little time. @aabreu had forewarned us that the portions were huge. The problem with me is that my eyes were bigger than my stomach so I had to be careful when I ordered. I wanted a little bit of everything.

The event has been held for the past 12 years with great success because of its variety of volunteers. Adults and young adults make this event come to life.

The process is very simple. You line up, a person approaches you and asks what you want, you order, you arrive to a table, you pay with cash or personal check, (no credit cards), and they give you a number. The volunteers walk around and look for your number and serve you at your table.

We sat with some of @aabreu’s friends from the church. I noticed these people sitting against the bleachers. These are the people who have ordered to go. That line got longer as the evening progressed.

@luiabreu ordered the Clam Chowder. The chunks inside made this chowder look so good.

@vbterp had the Fried Shrimp with yellow rice. The yellow rice was provided by La Fuente and Taka Taka’s Cafe.

My dish was the Fried North Atlantic Cod Fish with slaw and French fries. They had hot sauce packets as well which made me a happy man. The fish melted in my mouth. It was exquisite.

Homemade Mac and cheese made by members of the Women’s Council. This was very good.

The place started getting crowded as the evening went by.

Proof that the rain didn’t stop anyone from showing up. Rihanna did pop in my head though.
Overall, amazing Fish Fry. Big Gracias to @aabreu for the invite. We are still full and probably will be for the next week. The funds collected are put back into the church and the school. It was nice to see people come together for a good cause.
@vbterp and I will be back next year and I plan to bring @droolius and @eatlocalorlando with me.

Susan’s Courtside Cafe

Another hard day at work and as soon as court was done I ran to Susan’s Courtside Cafe. I have been here before, but have never blogged about it.

It’s a nice place. Love the look and feel of it. It feels like you are entering Susan’s home.

The decor is outstanding. There is an article in the Orlando Sentinel regarding the house being haunted. Very interesting.

I really do feel like I am in someone’s home just hanging out. It says to be one of the stops on the Haunted House tours in Kissimmee. You should check it out.

Unsweetened Tea with lemon. This is a great way to finish a spring time day.

Reviews raved about the personal pizza so I had to go for it. A bit sad they didn’t have sausage. They use breakfast sausage patties. So, I decided to get the bacon and onions pizza. I am sure would love this.
Overall, nice staff. Pizza took a bit but not too bad. Great looking place, good food. Great prices. Check them out when you are heading to court. : )

After an easy assignment I was heading home and had to stop at Panna. I have seen ads about it and my buddy @eatlocalorlando had also told me about it. Located in Hunters Creek.

Pretty nice operating hours. They have other locations, Davie, Doral, and Weston Florida. Not sure how popular they are there but it’s pretty new to this area.

You get a tracker after you order and you have a seat wherever you like. Glad the instructions on the table tell me where to place the tracker.

The place and the decor is nice. Not at all what I expected. The ladies at the register are there to greet you when you enter.

The flat screens are a big plus for me. I could see myself coming here for a soccer game.

Cafe Latte is always a must. It was tasty but I have had better. I am sure it was just me that wasn’t feeling it.

Empanada with beef and cheese. This was tasty. It was shredded beef, but I didn’t really taste any cheese inside. I am sure it was melted inside.

Overall, nice looking place. The food was just decent. I will have to come again and try other dishes.

Julie’s Broadway Cafe and Bakery

After an interesting day at the courthouse I decided to unwind and head out to downtown Kissimmee. Broadway Cafe has been along for as long as I can remember, but now it’s Julie’s Broadway Cafe.

Do not be fooled by the exterior. The goodies are inside. I have to admit I have been here three times before. I have walked out because of terrible service. That was over three years ago. Lucky for me, Three years ago Julie’s has taken over and the staff were amazing.

The place is spotless and the morning Spanish tunes are playing to put you in the mood to eat. Although, this morning was mostly traffic jam info on I-4. Of course.
I must also give a big shout out to the two guys who gave up their change to help me out in paying at the register. Good people are hard to find nowadays.

Cafe Latte. Their industrial machine is no joke. This was a mean cup of coffee that left me wanting more. As I type this blog I am craving one. They have a variety of drinks to offer and their menu is pretty extensive. They even do catering. Daily lunch specials are not to be missed.

Eggs, Ham, Sausage, Bread. The bread was nice and soft and toasty. Everything was flavorful and made to perfection. A++ for this breakfast. There were two locals who were complimenting the cook in the back. I was very impressed with the presentation and the taste.

They are open from 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday. They did have a sign posted saying they would be opening Saturdays from 9am to 4pm.
Overall, good tasting food, reasonable prices, great customer service. Anytime you are in the historic district of downtown Kissimmee be sure to stop by and say hello to Emily and the gang.
Emily and family, Thank you so much for your great customer service and yummy food. I should have asked for all of your names. Until we meet again.

Tres Amigos Authentic Mexican Restaurant

Formerly a Latin Buffet, now Tres Amigos has taken over and seems to be making quite a name for itself in the past five months here in Kissimmee.

As soon as I walked in I was greeted by Julio. He sat me down and immediately asked me what I would like to drink.

For all of you have read my blog before you know that customer service goes along way with me. I also noticed the other staff members working hard and smiling while doing it.

The staff was very efficient with some of the locals in the restaurant today. I knew some of them were out of town because of their license plates. As the dishes were being brought out to the other customers I noticed the portions were big.

Chips and Salsa. What a great way to start my spring break week. The white sauce was especially my favorite.

Enchiladas Verdes. These were pretty good. A little bit on the salty side. I would have liked the green sauce to be a little bit more spicy. The tomatoes, sour cream, and guacamole are always a good combination.

Enchiladas Verdes. This is another shot of it. I will have to come back again and try other dishes to see what their seasonings are like. They have a pretty extensive menu. Looking forward to coming back.

Tres Leches. This is a must anywhere I go. Sadly, I am not a fan of the strawberry inside. Still the cake was nice and moist. Very good.

Overall, reasonable prices, nice and clean restaurant, and good customer service. Located on 192 and the Turnpike. This place is not to be missed.

Julio, Gracias por todo. El servicio estuvo excelente.

Taco Norteño

This was a great start of my day. I was sent out to work in Winter Garden Florida. It’s a good 35 minutes from home with traffic. I took the Turnpike North and got off at 50 to Winter Garden.

As soon as I got off the exit I noticed this deliciousness. It was only about 9:40am, but I had to stop and get some tacos for breakfast.

The place is very nice. Very clean. One cook this morning and one gentleman who rung me up at the front.

I asked if I could get tacos. The gentleman said, “you can order whatever you like”. Menu was sweet and concise.

After ordering I had to go straight to the Salsa Bar. All the cilantro and onions you can put on your tacos. Not to mention all the hot sauces. This was heavenly.

Steak Tacos with onions and cilantro. This is my favorite way of eating an authentic taco. The steak was made perfectly. The flavors of the meat is what I have been craving since I left Chicago in 1999.

I had to take another picture of them since they looked and tasted so good.
The customer service was okay. Not overly friendly, but not rude either. The #food can be seen cooked which makes me feel safe. I plan to come back and try their enchiladas and other menu items.
