Valerie’s Mexican Restaurant and Bakery

This establishment has Closed

Valerie’s has been here for two years and I found it by accident today. Best accident ever! 192 is always on the go and it’s always a traffic nightmare. While looking for a new place with @xobejm we found this beautiful gem of a restaurant.

Now I have always said, being Guatemalan and living in Kissimmee has made me a Mexican restaurant pro. While living in Chicago my parents always took me to Mexican restaurants. So, I have become the Mexican dining connoisseur. Kissimmee has now had more Mexican restaurants come into town.

Valerie’s is a restaurant and bakery. As you can tell by the picture they have a bit of everything. Some groceries can be picked up while getting your baked needs on this side and getting an authentic home cooked meal on the other side.

Don’t be fooled by her size. Valerie’s packs a punch when it comes to their menu selection. Carmen the woman behind all the magic makes her meals truly authentic, Guanajato Style (Insert Gangnam Style dance). While Ramon the new owner greets the customers who come in with a smile. Now, lets get to the FOOD stuff!!!

Steak taco to start with. My “Go To” dish at any Mexican restaurant. Nice bite six steak taco with cilantro and onions. Also, a side of grilled onions and lime. Perfect combination.

Steak Torta. With the works, tomato, lettuce, mayo, beans, etc. @xobejm and I like the bread extra toasty. It gives the sandwich more crunch. I chose all my dishes with steak today. I was feeling carnivorous. Great flavor in this sandwich. Carmen was happy to hear that we liked her sandwich. She emphasized that the secret ingredient is that she cooks with love.

Chilaquiles Rojos with rice, beans, and salad with avocado. The Guanajato style comes with steak, cilantro, onions, and a spicy kick that made my nose run for about thirty minutes. AMAZING!! So much kick I should have bought shin guards.

Carne Asada with rice, beans, side salad, and avocado. The meals also come with corn tortillas that are nice and hot when served to the table. Once again, great flavor! The meat was nice and tender.

Steak Gordita. I would say the picture says it all. The presentation alone is amazing. I couldn’t stop looking at it. Carmen went above and beyond on this one. She truly is an artist. Filled it to the gills with complete yumminess. This is not your regular gordita. Valerie’s has taken this gordita to a whole new level. DELICIOUS!

Baby Girl and I were too full to even see the dessert menu. We will be going again soon. Guaranteed! If the secret ingredient is love than I will be back several more times for it. Fantastic place. I highly recommend it. Great prices, great people, and amazing food. You can’t go wrong at Valerie’s!

Ramon y Carmen. Muchísimas Gracias for ser tan amables conmigo y mi nena.

Right in front of Gatorland. This Colombian restaurant is taken for granted in Orlando. Great portions and only okay customer service. That could use improvement, but the food is outstanding.

Very small place with lots of food. Most of the time the parking lot looks like this. Yet, the locals know they have to come here for some good home cooking.

This morning there were about 4 families having lunch. Plates come out of the kitchen sizzling. YUM. Nice looking bar area. I wonder if it gets busy at night here. I gotta check it out.

Nice place. Very clean and the ladies are hard at work serving the customers. Lot of diversity within the restaurant. All kinds of ethnicities in here today.

Tipico Montanero. (Medellin typical food) Rice, beans, pork strips, steak, sweet plantains, egg, and corn cake. This definitely rivals the Bandeja Paisa. Great Colombian dish. Very filling.

Come for the food. It’s great. Nice ambiance overall. Service so so. Plenty of parking. Check it out if ever in this area.

Cilantrillo Café & Restaurant

I had to revisit Cilantrillo tonight. The pictures taken a while back came out horrible. So, lets call this round two.

As always the place is gorgeous. huge space and the bongos are set for the evening entertainment.

Plantain chips and mayo/ketchup. My favorite combo. This is a great start to a great meal.

Chuletas Kan Kan (Pork Belly Pork Chops) with Trifongo (cassava, green plantains, and ripe plantains)

Baby Girl went with the American dish tonight and ordered the Cheeseburger, lettuce, pickles, and onions. She had me taste some and it was awesome.

Baby Girl APPROVED!!!

Foodbidden APPROVED!!

Cilantrillo is the place to be with the best Trifongo in town. They are open on Sundays and have lunch specials that are out of this world. Stop by and pay them a visit. BUEN PROVECHO!!

P.R.’s Taco Palace

The colors alone tell you why I stopped and had to eat here. Right next to @CaskLarder this place has a unique personality. Kandi was the first one to greet me. Very nice and gave me her recommendations. Randi was my server today and was sweet as can be.

Extremely colorful. Looks very festive. Love it. Very strange to not have any Spanish people working here, but the team here is very friendly and I feel like I am in Key West. : )

The place is huge. Huge bar. As you can see everything is written on. The chairs, tables, and the walls are written on with black marker, pen, some carved in the wood, etc. Very cool.

Chips and Salsa. Just the right kick in the salsa. This was very good. Very well made. They have been here for 21 years. Can’t believe I didn’t spot it until now.

Big Red Taco. Chicken breast, breaded then fried and topped with wing sauce and bleu cheese.

Double Stuffed Taco. Crunchy taco filled with ground beef, lettuce, tomato, and cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla with refried beans.

Black beans and rice with cheese. The cheese on top of the rice and beans made this dish amazing.

Everything was very good. Kandi mentioned they have the best burger in town too. Next time I go I will have to check it out. Great place to come and have a good time. If you are eating in, when the train goes by they serve $3.00 tequila shots. By the way, the train goes by often.

Randi and Kandi, thank you so much for the making me feel welcomed as soon as I walked in. You two are very nice. Will come back with the family for sure.

Cafe Gauguin

This morning was a rushed start kind of morning. @Xobejm had to be picked up by @vleboss and I had to run out for work. But first, breakfast. Located inside the Rosen Centre Hotel.

While searching on Urbanspoon Cafe Gauguin popped up. One review was good and the other bad. Ramon the manager sat down with me and said they have a great brunch and dinner as well. I let him know I am not a buffet guy, but these options were great.

You have a choice of ordering from the menu or from the buffet. My server Laurielle greeted me and offered me coffee. Yes indeed!

With all these options I went with the buffet. Now, don’t get me wrong, this was an expensive breakfast. Breakfast buffet starts at 16.95. Which I was okay with this morning because of the amount of choices.

I went simple today. Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and a croissant. Truly a breakfast of champions. I enjoyed tasting one of each item. They had so much more to offer, but I went simple today.

Fruits, waffles, toast, etc. Included in the buffet was the make our own omelette station. Yum. I just couldn’t do it today. Next time for sure.

Laurielle, thank you so much for your kindness and your sweet demeanor. You are awesome. Keep up the good work.

That One Spot

Thanks to @burgerbeast and @droolius for their talks about it and the pics. I had to try this one for myself. Running on limited time, but had to eat. Hopefully, they will be getting a sign soon.

Very nice place. Wasn’t what I expected. They have some groovy music when you walk in. Not loud at all. I like it.

Outside seating is always a must in Florida. Although you are mostly admiring bumper to bumper traffic, but still it’s a very nice area to sit and chill.

Loads of choices. Lots of burgers!! They make them to order. They were making lots of them when I walked in. I took the suggestion from the person who rang me up. Customer service was okay. You place your order and you wait.

That Other Burger.
Roasted red peppers, goat cheese, red onions, leaf, lettuce, balsamic ketchup and homemade garlic aioli.

The wait wasn’t long at all. Had some locals in here tonight, both young and old. When I have more time I would like to come here again and try their sides. I heard their hand cut fries are great.

Foodbidden APPROVED!!!

Great place for burgers and more. The Curry Chicken burger will be mine the next time I come here.

Bosphorous Turkish Cuisine

Note: This blog and pictures are ALL credited to Angela and Tim. (My In-laws)

They have a love of food like I do. And they love to explore all the local places in town. Since Angela has read my blog she had an idea of what pictures to send me.

The menu looks great. Everyday happy hour got my attention on this one. Not to mention the great lunch specials.

You can never go wrong with Turkish Tea. Angela is a big tea fan and she can tell ya how to make a great cup of tea.

Cheese and Tomato stuffed bread with a side salad. Tim and Angela truly made me smile. They are taking @droolius type food shots. Or should I say @kokocooks shots. Not sure, I am a fan of both of their styles.

This was my favorite picture of ALL. Tim, my father in law giving the “Foodbidden Approved” sign. This is awesome.

Angela and Tim, thank you so much for the pictures and contributing to Foodbidden.Wordpress.Com and spreading the word of local restaurants.
Great pictures.
